Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)

Definition: GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, is an entrance exam conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) along with seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) to test the comprehensive understanding of the subjects taught at the graduation level pertaining to the engineering and the science field.

The Gate score helps the student to qualify for several post graduate education programs viz. Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Doctorate in Philosophy, etc.

With a GATE score card, an individual qualifies for several job positions in Government Services such as HAL, NPCIL, BARC, etc. Also, the scorecard helps an individual to do Ph.D. from any renowned university.

What is the Eligibility Criteria for the GATE Exam?

The following is the eligibility criteria:

  • An individual must be a Bachelor in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture, successfully completed 4 years of education after 10 +2. Also, those who are giving their final year exams of such education programme can apply.
  • Any individual holding Masters Degree in any of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.

Note: The GATE exam is generally conducted on the second sunday of the feburary month.
